We relish watching a style glow-up here at Vogue HQ. The transformative power of fashion can radically alter how we view the most unexpected of A-listers. Since turning 25 a year ago, Kylie Jenner has undergone something of a fashion metamorphosis. Her style journey contains multitudes, but broadly speaking has seen her go from all body-con all the time to cult brand-sporting fashion girl. She even became the face of a Jean Paul Gaultier campaign.
It all started with Paris Fashion Week spring/summer 2023, for which the beauty mogul packed a series of attention-grabbing ensembles. Stand-outs included a midnight-blue velvet floor-length Schiaparelli gown that, to the internet’s delight, exuded Disney villain energy. Then there was the thigh-skimming crochet Balmain minidress for the brand’s blockbuster show (where none other than Cher made a surprise appearance on the runway). Elsewhere, Kylie dazzled in a white figure-hugging, floor-length gown complete with a cape and train at Acne Studios, which she finished off with bug-eye wrap-around shades.
In January of this year, Kylie returned to Paris for haute couture week, where she dazzled in a head-to-toe JPG couture look at Haider Ackermann’s Jean Paul Gaultier show. She scored further fashion points when she appeared in a striking Maison Margiela ensemble – a blue tulle opera coat, baby-blue silk slip dress, mini 5Ac bag and crystal-embellished Tabi heels (that ever-controversial insider favourite). Not to be overlooked: her head-turning appearance at the Schiaparelli show wearing a preview of the collection: a black gown adorned with an enormous faux lion’s head.
Kylie also deserves praise for her impressive assortment of vintage fashion trophies. Over the past year, she’s acquired sought-after pieces spanning a rare 3D hands-embellished Comme des Garçons top and skirt set from the brand’s 2007 autumn/winter collection, and a backless gown from Azzedine Alaïa’s 2000 autumn/winter show. Her Jean Paul Gaultier conical bra dress from autumn/winter
1984 was equally unforgettable.
