The Portuguese championship homepage awarded the title of “Best Player of All Time” to Cristiano Ronaldo, but did not specify whether it was domestic or global.
On Wednesday evening, September 10, the Portuguese professional football league system (Liga Portugal) held an awards ceremony for the 2024-2025 season. Striker Viktor Gyokeres received the “Best Player of the Year” award, after scoring 54 goals in 52 matches for Sporting Lisbon last season.

However, the most notable award went to Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo . He received the title “Best Player of All Time”, but it was not specified whether it was in Portugal or the world. Ronaldo was not present at the gala, but sent a video to the program.
“I want to thank Liga Portugal for this title,” said the 40-year-old striker. “I am particularly honoured to be named the best player of all time. I want to thank my teammates and coaches who have supported me throughout my career, allowing me to receive this wonderful award. Thanks to them, I will continue to strive to improve.”
In the 2024-2025 season, Ronaldo helped Portugal win the UEFA Nations League. He scored in the second leg of the quarter-finals against Denmark, the semi-finals against Germany and the final against Spain. But at club level, the Al Nassr captain did not win any titles.
Ronaldo also holds the record for most goals scored of all time, with 943 in 1,286 games. He is just 57 goals away from reaching his dream of 1,000.

The Liga Portugal awards are held annually, but this year Ronaldo was given a special title for his Nations League triumph. Gyokeres was also named Player of the Year last year, while Ruben Amorim was named Coach of the Year.
