The dolls have soft English mohair to mimic real hair and are painted for realism to highlight their wrinkles and creases. Camille’s craft skills were passed down within her extended family after her grandmother, Clara Alleÿ, taught her how to make life-size dolls.
The life-size dolls inspired Camille to create her own creations, focusing on miniature animals, which she calls ‘Egg Babies’. Camille stated, “The first baby I made was a fetal position, and I made it look like an umbilical cord, as if it were still in the .”
The shape and size of the 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 resembled an egg shell. I tried this and the 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 fit perfectly with an egg! This is how the concept of “Egg Bāies” was conceived. I believe the egg shell represents the fragility of life and the need for proper treatment and care. I later attempted to capture a squid inside a seashell, known as the “Shell Bāies”.
The shapes and textures of seashells either mimic the soft curves of oceans or provide a striking contrast to highlight them. Some Shell BaÄies have pearls in their shells or hold pearls, resembling two treasures inside one shell! Camille reports that her clients appreciate her work, with many seeking therapy for various emotional and heartbreaking reasons.
She stated that they touch people’s hearts and often remove their debt or grievances. People who have had a pregnancy or a miscarriage are deeply affected. I have received a lot of emotional emails, some of which make me cry. Prices range from $99 for a single pair to $1,500 for a complete set of hoop earrings, all available on Camille’s website.
